Normal Mapping Essentials On A Landscape

Just another picture quickie. This is splatted offset normal mapping on a terrain like mesh :)

Looks really sweet.

I think the ambient occlusion factor is a little too much, especially since this is “detail normalmapping”, it doesn’t create that many big bumps in the geometry… but it helps giving depth cues.

Hmm.. owned. There is no ambient occlusion factor involved in this shader, but in the post before. I figured out that its not worth it. It was inside the alpha channel of the normal map, compressed with DXT5. So far, “real” normal map compression is better than DXT5 though.
